Friday Night Happenings

Well, TGIF! Yesterday I did not think I would make it to today. It was a terrible Thursday! The kids at school were wild and everyone (teachers) were just give out! Well, I am glad to say it was a lot better today. It had to get better....and to make it better, it was finally Friday.

Brit is at her last football game of the year. It is an away game in Vidalia. The score at halftime is 21-0 (not us) so it does not sound good. At least the band sounds great. Britleigh has had a great time being in the band this year. Just think, next year she will be in high school. Very hard to believe...but hey....I have been out for 20 years. I am getting old!

I am going to Christmas in the South tomorrow with a group of girls from school. I am very excited! I do not have any money, but we will have fun just looking around. I always enjoy looking at the crafts and getting ideas for teacher gifts for Christmas.

Austin had a great time this past Tuesday. One of the football coaches let Austin get suited up on the football field after practice. He LOVED it to say the least. Here are a few pictures.

Last weekend in October

Well, it has been an eventful weekend. To start the week, we lost an aunt to cancer. Aunt Nita passed away on Tuesday. I went to Thomasville on Friday for the visitation and to see the family. Growing up, we were very close to Aunt Nita and Uncle Russell. Since Jody is only three years older than I am , we were almost like brother and sister.

On Saturday, Britleigh ran her last cross-country race. Saturday was the Middle School State Champonship race. Britleigh ran in the JV race and did very well. She placed 22nd overall and was the first girl for Bleckley County. We were so excited! She shaved a whole minute off her time from last week. She ran and gave it her all. We are so proud of her.

Saturday afternoon we went to our church fall festival. There were lots of people there and all had a good time. After the festival, the Wyatts came over to catch up on two weeks of Grey's Anatomy (thanks to the dvr) and watched the GA-LSU game...and thanks to the dvr. It was nice to fast forward to the big plays and watch the highlights we wanted to see. Daniel and Kim were at the FSU game so they were able to send me texts and keep me updated on the score. GO NOLES! I am pleased to say we won that game as well. This weekend FSU plays Ga Tech in ATL. It will be a great game. (Also for all you GA fans, the big GA-FLA game will also be a game to watch this week). I hate both games will be at 3:30. I will just have to flip back and forth from the FSU game to catch some DAWGS in action. Anyone who plays the Gators needs to be cheered for :)

I hope this week is calm. We need a calm week. Britleigh does not have band this week. The Royals are off this week. She will return to dance for the first time this year. With band and xc, she has not had a free Monday to go to dance.
On Friday, I hope we go see Thomas County Central play against Westside-Macon. It will be the game of the season.

Until later...

What a month it has been so far...

Wow! Can you believe it is mid-October already? It definitely does not feel like it outside. Today's high was 87. Britleigh had a XC meet this afternoon. She finished 16th by the way....go Britleigh!! Anyway, she ran at 5:30 and it was so hot. I was hot and I was not the one running 2K.

Buddy Ball was a great success...again. This year was the 6th Annual Buddy Ball game. Austin had a great time. This year we had two games. The first game was at 10:00 for ages 3-8 and then another game at 1:00 for ages 9-14. We served grilled hamburgers and hotdogs between the games. You can see pictures at the local Bleckley news website http://www.bleckleyprogress.com/artman/publish/article_1871.shtml. Dave (the photographer and owner of the Bleckley Progess) always does a great job at capturing the moments.

Here are a few pictures of my own:

Austin at bat

Austin and Walker running in to home

This is the pic from the first game ages 3-8

This is from the second game ages 9-14

The three Parent to Parent Musketeers (Danette, Margaret & Kathy)

And one more thing...I mentioned in an earlier post Britleigh had Glamour Magic Shots (a lot like Glamour Shots) and here are a few of her pics. I bought the CD with copyright so I can print what ever I want to print and share.

I can not believe how old she looks...she is not my little girl anymore

but she will always be my baby.

Finally Thursday!

Wow...this has been a LONG week. I am glad tomorrow is finally Friday. This weekend is jam packed. Of course, Friday night is the football game. Bleckley is playing at home against Screven Co. The band is adding another song to the show so I am excited to see the new addition.

Saturday, Britleigh has a XC meet at Mercer in Macon. We will get back after lunch then off to Possum Hollow, a large arts and crafts fair. Austin is singing at 5:00 and has an hour time slot. He sings before The Lee Jessup Band. Lee is always very generous and allows Austin to sing before him. Mom and Dad are coming on Saturday too so that is an added treat.

I hope Sunday is somewhat relaxing. The band had a fund raiser for Glamour Magic (like Glamour Shots) so Brit has an appt for that Sunday afternoon at 1:45.

Well, I better go. I have lots to do to get ready for Buddy Ball. That is next weekend and it is our 6th annual. I am excited about that.

Until later...

Yes... the Rogers' family is still alive....

Can you believe I am actually going to update my blog? After you pick yourself off the floor, you will see I actually am. I am about to start my taxi service (Brit to cross country and then to marching band) and then it will be school work for me and homework for Austin.

I will give a WOOHOO for this coming weekend. Gina, Ben, Doug and I are going to the Florida State game in Tallahassee this weekend. GO NOLES! I can not wait to get away for a few days. The game is Saturday night so we will go down early on Saturday, relax and enjoy the day. We will go back home on Sunday.

Gotta go...until later...soon than two months I promise...

Back to the REAL world

I know...I do not get much sympathy from the majority but it is a big deal to teachers when we have to go back to school for pre-planning. Today was our first official day back. I actually had to go yesterday for an in-service training for Special Ed so today was day two for me.

We always have a county-wide meeting the first day in the morning. We have a keynote speaker and most have been really good. This is my fifth year at Bleckley County Schools (first year as Parent Mentor and fourth year as teacher). Anyway, today's keynote was the BEST!! His name is Keith Brown. I wish you could have heard him! Here is his website. Keith Brown One of his sayings thru out the keynote was "Good Job, Good Job! Good Job, Good Job! G- double O- D-J-O-B, Good Job, Good Job!" It has a very peppy beat with it...I guess you just had to be there.

Britleigh starts school on Aug 5 and Austin goes back on Aug 4. Where did the summer go???

Finally...an update

Times flies when you are having fun!

(Well the past few days have not been a fun day at the park, just a big roller coaster.) My computer caught an Adware "bug" and it was making my life miserable!! Pop-ups and then my taskbar/desktop icons would disappear....it was driving me crazy and giving me an ulcer. I scanned and rescanned, quarantined, etc but it still would come back to life. SO... I called the Geek Squad! They are the BEST!! Yes I did pay a little bit for the service, but it settled my nerves and made my ulcer go away. So now I am happy again. I have dealt with the issues since Friday, so I am glad it is now taken care of. The best part, I have 30 free days of continued support from the GS if I have another issue.

Now, to talk about better things....
Last week I was in ATL for the annual CRCT review. It was my second year attending and we had a great time. Gina, Terri and I went again. I will be teaching with Terri this coming year in second grade.
On the way to ATL, we stopped in Griffin. I had won a BOX of books for my classroom from a fellow educator on Ebay. To save the shipping charges, they agreed to let me pick it up. We also stopped at a Dollar Tree (a teacher's friend) and found some great book crates for our classrooms. We arrived on Sunday evening at the Marriott Renaissance Hotel in downtown. The classes started Monday and completed on Thursday. Last year we went to several locations throughout downtown (The Aquarium, Cenntenial Park, CNN Center, etc) but this year we opted to SHOP, SHOP, SHOP! Monday we went to Atlantic Station. Tuesday, we went to Kennesaw to two teacher stores: Lakeshore Learning and The School Box. I LOVE the School Box. I wish there was one in Macon. (Actually, I am sure Doug is glad there is NOT one in Macon.) Anyway, I found a lot of great things and several things on clearance. I am going to order more stuff from their once school starts with a school PO.
On Wednesday, we went back to Atlantic Station and went to IKEA. We loved that store! I found great deals and I want to go back in the future. (Wynita, that sounds like a trip we need to do together.) On Thursday, we only stopped at a Dollar Tree to find more book crates. We did not find all we needed so that is my quest for this week. More Dollar Trees :)

Ok, well enough rambling. I am just so relieved my computer is back to normal I am not sleepy. I guess I will clean up some since I WASTED all Friday and most of Saturday messing with my computer.

Oh, I am also in the middle of painting the kids' rooms. I will post pictures when we are done. The colors will surprise you...can you say "Go Royals?"

Until next time...

Home and on the go again...

We made it home safely from the beach. We had a GREAT time! Austin and I did not want to go home...who wouldn't love to just stay at the beach forever...but at some point you have to go back to the real world.

Britleigh had a blast at Junior 4-H camp. I will post later about her week's events.

Well, I am off to an appt for Austin. Will post more later.

Getting ready for next week

Well, I am now getting really excited about going to the beach. Austin has been ready for several days now. I have too, but now it feels like reality... the beach is two days away. My sister, her family and our parents are going down today. Doug is off on Sunday because he has to work Mon-Fri. We will all enjoy spending time together on Sunday relaxing.

Britleigh is packed and ready for camp. She leaves Monday morning at 9:00. The Junior 4-Hers are going to Jekyll Island. They will visit St. Simons and others areas of the coast during the week. Here is Britleigh's schedule for the week. She is going on VACATION not camp!

I better get going. I have a lot to do before we leave. Doug will be here all week by himself so I have to make sure he has everything he will need while we are gone. Well...he will be here with Peanut :)

Until l8r (that was Britleigh's touch)
....with beach pictures.

The week of doctor appointments

This has been a busy week. To start off on Monday, Austin had an MRI/MRA in Savannah. We had to be there at 10:00 so we left at 7:00. We go there at 9:30 and got registered. The wait was not long and we were sent back. We had several holding rooms but we were in the pediatric sedation area by 11:00. Austin's scheduled time was at 11:30. After the PO Versed, he did well. He fought the medicine but the IV was alot easier after the Versed. The power of prayer was the greatest help. Sunday night we asked for the congregation to remember Austin on Monday morning from 10-11. While we were in the waiting room, Austin started to get anxious. That was about 10:20. Suddenly, we got a voicemail from a lady at church and we called the preacher. He said he was drying some dishes and was just thinking of us. I know people thinking of Austin and lifting him up in prayer made the difference.

After the MRI/MRA, Austin had a dr appt with Dr. Pearlman at 2:15. We left the hospital around 12:30 and went to Chili's to eat. Austin was a little "loopy" walking in but after he ate some chicken/FF and drank some tea he was back to being Austin. After the appt, we went home and got back around 7:00. It was a LONG day. Gina went with us (A BIG shout-out and thank you to her) so the day was alot easier.

On Tuesday it was Britleigh's turn. She had her annual well check appt and shots. It was time for her 2nd Gardasil shot and her sports physical for cross-country. After her appt and we were checking out, Britleigh looked at me and said "Momma, I am about to fall." She looked at me and I grabbed her as she started to fall. Her knees buckled and she started shaking. It really scared me. It scared Austin too. The nurse ran around the nurse's station and another nurse got a doctor. They took her and put her in a room and laid her down with her legs propped up. After a few minutes, she got her color back and felt okay. The doctor said that reaction was not uncommon after a shot. It was a first for us though.

Before we took Britleigh to the doctor, we took Peanut to the vet. He had to spend the night for "male" surgery. I knew we needed to do it, but I hated leaving him. Chihuahuas are loyal to their masters but do not like strangers. I knew he would not be enjoying his time there. I called and checked on him on the way to Britleigh's appt and he was doing fine.

Today, I had to take Britleigh back to the doctor. She had to have a lab repeated from Tuesday. Also since she almost completely passed out, we were not able to shop for camp clothes. So...after the doctor's office, we went shopping. We did not have a lot of money to spend so it was not a fun shopping trip...just buying what she needed to have.

Wednesday afternoon, we picked Peanut up. He was really glad to see us. He has to take it easy for the next few days. No jumping, etc. He does not seem sore but he has been just laying around.

In the morning I have a hair cut appt then I hope we can go home and relax. I am tired of going and need to get a few things done before we go to the beach. Britleigh has to get packed for camp and Doug will have to work all week. I only wish the whole Rogers family was going.

Austin and I will have a good time with Wynita, Palmer and Gran so we are counting down the days... just 5 more days until the beach!

This week's happenings...

Well, this week has been very busy but yet relaxing. This is the first week of no school for the whole Rogers family. Austin's last day was May 30th and my last day was the 28th. Britleigh's dance recital was Saturday, the 31st, so after I got thru with post-planning I did not get a break. Britleigh had dance practice every day (Tues-Sat). So this week is definitely a slower pace.

I started walking last week after I put Austin on the bus. I am proud to say ten days later I am still walking every morning. I walk two miles, at least, and some days I have done three. I have also been doing a mixture of walking/running. I want to work up to running a mile without stopping. For some that does not sound like a big goal, but it is big goal for me. I am working at it slowly. Britleigh started cross country practice this week so I hope to be running with her soon. I am going to get her up a few mornings to walk with me. (I am sure she will enjoy that...she is not a morning person).

Yesterday Britleigh turned 13!! WOW! Can you believe it?! She is offically a teenager now. Today she is having a pool party and then a friend is going to spend the night and we are going to see Kung Fu Panda tonight. I am looking forward to see the movie. Jack Black is the panda so it should be really cute.

Oh, I almost forgot. Tuesday I went to a Walden Univ meeting on the doctoral program. I think a small group of us are going to start in October. The program lasts 3 years. We will see how this develops...but I am pretty sure I will do it.

And last but not least...I am proud to say I am going to the beach in 10 days. Austin and I are going to Panama City Beach with my sister. Doug has to work at Frito Lay Monday - Friday and Britleigh will be at 4-H camp at Jekyll Island. So... it will be Austin & I enjoying the fun in the sun. We are both excited...

Until later...

The Best Star Wars Party!!

Austin's Star Wars party on Saturday was a great success! He turned ten and was surrounded by several of his favorite characters...Chewey, Obi-Wan, a StormTrouper and others! Of course his family members were there along with family friends to cheer on the occasion.

Here are a few pictures from the party:

This is how Palmer reacted to the characters. He was not afraid at all. He went straight to them.

Mom, Dad, Palmer and Wynita spent the night with us Saturday night. On Sunday, we had a great day with each other. Mom ended up getting in the pool with Britleigh & Austin. Here are a few pictures of the afternoon:

Even though Mom was "attacked" by water tubes (that she bought), she had a great time with the kids. Until later...

Three more days of school & Rogers' happenings

Wow! Can you believe there is only three more days of school? This year has really gone by so fast...and I know the summer will as well. Next year I will be teaching second grade. I will be responsible for the inclusion and resource classes. I am really excited! The best part of all is I get my own room. I am so excited about that. I have truly enjoyed being an inclusion teacher for the past three years, but I am ready to add resource to my experiences. My first year I taught a resource class for 1/2 day, but this will be different.

I can not believe it has been a whole month since I posted here. It has been so busy with school ending and other activities. Britleigh had her band concert last Thursday. They did VERY well. She will march with the Royal Kingmen Band in the Fall. Eight graders can participate in the high school band. I am glad Britleigh will get that experience.

Another great thing happening to the Rogers' family is we are developing into a band. Doug plays the banjo, Austin on the drums, guitar, and mandolin and now Britleigh is learning to play the bass. Doug bought one Saturday while Austin was at guitar lessons and Britleigh started playing it Sunday. She is a true natural! Wade plays with them and he tells Britleigh the notes. She is great! I will try to post a video clip of them playing together. You will think they have been playing for a long time!!

Last weekend was the Hillside Bluegrass Festival in Cochran. We were pleasantly surprised when the Ezell family called and they would be performing. Wanda, Mr. John, Corley, Erica, and Monica play in a group called "Pink Grass". We enjoyed visiting with them watching them play. Austin took his mandolin on Friday night and played along. We all had a great time! Austin and Monica really hit it off. I wish we lived closer so we could visit more often.

We are very excited about this weekend. Austin is turning 10!!! I can not believe he will be ten. It does seem like a long time ago when he was a baby and goodness knows he has been through alot in those ten years...but he is getting too old. I definitely do not have a "baby" anymore. I will post pictures from his party.

Doug's wood creations

Here is a picture of Doug's table he made over the weekend. It is made of poplar and cedar. When he was cutting the cedar, the whole garage had a wonderful smell. Just imagine...fresh-cut cedar.

This table is going to have a bottom shelf and used under our new TV. We are going to put the DVR and surround sound on it. Doug said he might build a couple end tables to match. Last night we went to Home Depot and bought a jointer/planer. I can not wait to see what else he is going to make.

Remodeling pics

Well...I am finally posting pictures of the remodel. I should have taken pictures from the beginning. For those of you who do not know, Doug inclosed our front porch and created a foyer and walk-in closet. The walk-in closet is for Britleigh. The closet extends from Austin's room, so they are going to swap rooms. Her old room is pepto-pink and Austin's current room (the playroom) is John Deere green. So needless to say, we are repainting there as well.

The living room has a double window showing the front porch so Doug had to sheetrock the window opening. Since we then had a large wall with nothing on it, he decided to puy a "man" TV and put it on the wall. It is really nice and the whole family is enjoying it.

Here are a few pictures of our progress.

This one is just a bonus...

Some Easter pictures

I am finally getting a chance to load some Easter pictures from last weekend. I am on Spring Break this week and Austin went back to school. I got up to get him on the bus and had plans on going back to bed but I was too awake after he got on the bus. If I laid back down, I would have a terrible headache. I guess that is apart of getting older. :(

Anyway, here are some great pictures. I hope you enjoy them.

Spring Break is finally here

Well, for some of us. Austin has been on spring break this week and he has to return to school on Monday. Britleigh and I will be on break next week. This is the third year Austin has been at GAB and we have never had the same break. Maybe one year we will have the same spring break- then we could go and do something. Anyway, below is a picture of how we will feel at 3:30 this afternoon.

WOO-HOO!!!

Exciting weekend ahead...

I am so excited about this coming weekend. The Smith Families are coming to my house for the Easter weekend. Wynita, Lance and Palmer will arrive before lunch on Saturday. My parents will also be in by lunch. Kim and Daniel will be coming after Kim gets off of work Saturday afternoon.
We will be attending the church egg hunt Saturday afternoon and then will have our own family egg hunt later Saturday evening. The time change is nice so we can hunt eggs later that afternoon. For supper, the men will be grilling. Doug mentioned maybe smoking a Boston Butt. Whatever they cook, it will be delicious.

Sunday morning, we will attend Sunrise Service and eat breakfast at church...then regular Sunday School and church. It will be an adventure packed day.

I will post pictures so you see our babies all grown up. Of course my two are getting way to big, but now Palmer is joining them. He has grown up so much already.

until later...

In Loving Memory...

I write this post with great sadness. A great friend and fellow educator has past away. Linda Faulk passed away today. Linda was en route to receive treatment for Leukemia at Emory. Linda was diagnosed with Leukemia in October 2007.

Linda was a very giving and loving special education teacher. She taught kindergarten at BCPS. Foremost, Linda was the loving mother of two boys, Ben and Lucas. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered forever.

The eclipse was very exciting to watch last night. I tried to take a picture. I should have used my tri-pod. It is very hard to hold the camera still when you are taking a picture of the moon. Here is my picture. I think it turned out pretty good.

Hannah Montana....

Well, my son...yes my son is very excited to get to see the Hannah Montana movie this coming week. Here is a clip from Good Morning America last week. We are going on Monday after school to see the 3-D movie concert. I will post his expressions and how much he enjoyed the movie. Austin loved in this clip that Miley Cyrus loves to play Guitar Hero. Now he wants to know which one...Guitar Hero I, II or III. Maybe be can googled that and find out.

Until then...

Introducing Austin on drums

Austin has taken drum lessons for the past year and half and has learned alot of techniques. He has fallen in love with several songs from the past, such as Slow Ride and Carry On My Wayward Son. He has been "introduced" to these classic songs thru Guitar Hero and Rockband. Anyway, he decided he wanted to try to play Slow Ride on his drums. I have to say he did very well. I had tears of a mother's joy as he played. I tried to post the video clip but it would not complete the whole process. I will figure it out and let you see it soon. You will love it!

Pay Day...at last!

Well, I am glad to see the end of January get here. Tomorrow is payday! Educators get paid mid-December due to the holidays so it has been a LONG six + weeks since we were paid. Then it is bill time...but at least I will have a little bit in the checking account for a few days.

I just got home (few hours ago) from a GREAT night with the Walden girls. Since we completed our Master's, the five of us who doubled planned to go out and celebrate. Four of us were able to go out tonight. We had a great time. We saw the movie 27 Dresses ( a wonderful chick flick) and then went to Johnny Carino's for dinner. After dinner, we rode thru the drive thru at Krispy Kreme for a few HOT doughnuts. It was a great evening and we are going to plan another outing soon.

Cold Weekend

Well, this weekend we are definitely staying in and keeping warm. It has been a very cold day. Actually, it has been very cold since Wednesday. We have had two "snow" tricks the weather has played on us. We thought we were going to get snow on Wednesday night but nothing. The second snow trick was for today. All we got was RAIN!! Cold rain!

Oh a happy note, my sister got snow both times. At least Palmer got to experience snow on Saturday. I am sure he did not know what to think about it. Check out Wynita's blog for pictures.

I am looking forward to another "no-Walden" football afternoon on Sunday. I am still not used to having spare time...but it is nice. I do have a big project at school I am responsible for. I have two GAAs (Georgia Alternate Assessment) for two of my students who will not take the CRCT. The portfolio on each student is a pain. They are due on March 7th with several check points in between. I am not looking forward to it at all. I have half of the work done, I just have to do the paperwork.

Well, our supper is ready. I better go. I baked some chicken. I am trying to be on a diet. I am on the Special K diet during the week. I bought some of the Vanilla Crisp bars for breakfast. They are really good. I also have several of the cereals and I take them for lunch at school. If I could just do that on the weekend.

Until later...

Have a great week!

Walden Portfolio COMPLETE!

I am happy to announce I just completed my Walden portfolio. I just created my CD to ship to my reviewing professor tomorrow via UPS. My portfolio was not due until Jan 15th but I could not stand to look at Walden anymore. I had to get it done so I would be completely thru. The review process can take 4-6 weeks so I will be anxiously waiting on a response. But until then....I AM DONE!!!

I would scream with joy if my whole family was not asleep right now...it is 11:30PM. That said, I do have to go to school tomorrow so I am going to bed myself.

The Smith family

Here are a few pictures from our Christmas time together. We always have a great time together. My how time flies...

...and here we are as the extended Smith family. What a cute bunch!
